Negative space is a re-emerging art.
When a designer utilises the available space around a logo, in either the lettering or the icon and that makes another image, they are creating negative space. This effect generally will make their logo unique, clever and easily recognised.
Negative space is, quite simply, the space that surrounds an object in an image. The object is important but so is the negative space that helps to define the boundaries of positive space and it will bring balance to the composition.
Designers today are pushing the line creatively when they design positive spaces and shapes that in turn, cleverly carve out shapes in negative space intentionally. The end results are stunning and give the logo that wow factor.
Great logos have simple messages and using the negative space in a design allows for easy recognition making that logo memorable. A memorable logo will be effective in 10 or 15 years time.
