Now I have a website - what’s next?
Now you have your new website, products uploaded and the shopping cart is ready, it's time for the customers to come marching thru the door! This can be an agonising wait. To get thru this wait you need to be focused on giving your business a kick-start, and that's where you need to put your marketing plan into action. Your marketing is going to be the biggest driving force that will drive traffic thru your online store.
So where do I start? The best value you will get for your money will be getting Search Engine Optimisation, often referred to as SEO. Search Engine Optimisation means making your website easy to find by the search engines (target first Google) when customers are searching for your product or service online.
So, you need to formulate an SEO strategy.
This SEO strategy starts with figuring out which keywords you want your page to be optimized for. Keywords are the words or phrases that search engines like Google will use to identify your website. Unfortunately the most obvious keywords are the names of your products themselves. This is a good beginning but the problem with these keywords is the amount of competition for them. So it is better to string together two or three words that can also describe your product. This is called the “long tail”. You can refine your SEO keywords by going to the “long tail”, it makes up over 70% of all online searches. But it gets better – there tends to be less competition for many long tail keywords.
Good luck with your strategy!
